WEEKLY WISDOM

“Always do right.  This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.”

(Mark Twain)

Dear Parents:

With your child’s report card, you will receive a calendar for the next school year.  Please post this in a place in your home where you will see it easily and be reminded of the various major events of the year.

First day of school for 2008-09 is August 18.  Dismissal will be at 12:45 p.m. This same schedule will be followed on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 19 and 20.  Thursday and Friday, August 21 and 22 will be full days.  Lunch will be served everyday.

NOTICE – when you receive a new Handbook for the year 2008-09 you will see that the policy for heat related dismissals is as follows:   If the weather forecast on the 6:00 p.m. news report on KSDK (Channel 5) is for the temperature to reach 95 degrees Fahrenheit the following day, we will have an early dismissal at 12:45 p.m.  If the forecast changes the next morning, we will hold to the early dismissal indicated at 6:00 p.m. the night before.

Also, we want you to know that there will be Latch Key services provided on the early dismissal days.  This will be true of all early dismissal days during the year.

You will be receiving a letter from me around July 1.  This letter will give you the details you need to know for picking up your informational packets before the start of school – where and when.

Enjoy your summer days with your families.  Stay safe and say a prayer for us.  We will certainly pray for you.  I encourage you to make sure you and your children attend Mass on all the Sundays of the summer.  No matter where you spend the summer, you can probably find a Catholic Church near you.

God bless!
Ms. Burrus

A Note from Your Pastor

This school year we investigated the possibility and costs that would be involved in air-conditioning our school building.  I thank Mr. Kurt Voss for his hard work in investigating the various options available.  What we found was that all three options (window units, multi-room units, roof top units) were unaffordable at this time.  We regret to inform you of this.  Please use this opportunity to make a sacrificial pledge to reduce the debt load the parish has so that we will have monies available to devote to worthy projects needed for our parish plant.

Medications

Medications will not be sent home with the students.  Parents need to stop by the school office before May 30th to pick up any medications brought to school this year.  If they are not picked up by May 30th, they will be discarded.

Lunch Accounts

Thanks to all of you who responded to the notes sent about lunches due.  I still need money from a few of you.  Report cards will not be mailed until all unpaid balances are received.

Report Cards Sent Home

Report Cards will be mailed on or before May 30th.

Help Needed for Festival - Kettle Korn

Volunteers needed for Kettle Korn at the Our Lady of Lourdes Festival on June 8th.  Shifts needed to fill are 12 to 2 p.m., 2 to 4 p.m., and 4 to 6 p.m.  If you can help, call Tina Dulany at 239-5527 or email at tdulany@charter.net.

Home & School Food Stand at the Fair - Please Help

The Home & School will again sponsor a food stand at the Fair.  If you worked last year, a paper was sent home with your child asking if you would like to do the same shift or a different one.  Please send these papers back as soon as possible.  Last year once again we had to close early due to not being able to fill the spots with a volunteer.  We are asking that you please consider helping out Home and School with this fundraiser.  Thanks to all of you who have helped in the past and for any future help you can give.  You are appreciated!  Any questions or to volunteer call Trissy Dyson at 239-2315.
